I Wish I Had Told Them

I’m one of those sappy moms.

The type that wear their emotions for their children on their sleeve,

because I don’t want there to ever be a moment in time when I ever say “I wish I had told them”.

Nothing can put into words the abundance of unconditional love that envelops you the very moment that your child is born. Not to discredit the love that filled you the nine months leading up to this miracle. Or the love that filled your dreams of bringing this little person into reality.

This miracle of motherhood, it is indescribable. And it is that, a miracle.

It’s magical.

Effervescent.

And the older they get, the more magical it becomes.

No one tells you that part.

No one tells you that the joy of motherhood is only enhanced with each passing day.

That their joys are your joys.

That their happiness determines your own.

That their losses weigh on you as if they are yours.

And that their successes truly make you stand TALLER.

No one ever prepares you for the fact that their pain hurts more than anything in your life ever has before.

But that their smile when it reaches their eyes, that smile, that smile is absolutely everything.

Ethan, I hope the sun shines on you today & everyday from here on in.

Happy Birthday my boy.
