When I washed my face tonight...
I saw my blonde eyelashes,
my barely there eyebrows
and
I cringed.
But then I took a second look,
after the make up remover stopped stinging the heck out my eyes.
I triumphantly blinked away my blurred vision
and saw my blue eyes.
And through them...
I saw who I am.
Then I looked at the black smudges on my very white face cloth
and rolled my eyes
at the laundry that I'll have to do
and became perplexed.
We're told "be yourself"
but make sure that your eyelashes are "bold & black".
"Make sure your brows are dark & thick ~ it's not the 90's".
Even if it doesn't match your hair on your head
or the shape doesn't match your face.
Bold is in.
The same cookie cutter arched defined big brow on everyone,
is in.
Face hair is in....
FYI Brows ARE facial hair.
I'm very far from the age of being an impressionable teen,
but I buy into this.
But why?
In the beginning of it all...
who taught us that the natural beauty
that is right in front of us
isn't good enough???
Don't get me wrong,
when I leave the house tomorrow it'll be with black lashes & coloured in brows ~
but who taught us that this "make up" was the definition of "presentable & pretty"?
And why?
